PM3119: On ectoplasm

Ectoplasm is a physical substance supposedly created paranormally on the bodies of psychic mediums; or sometimes created in a haunted place by the action of ghosts. A number of photographs and testimonies have been produced purported to show this phenomena; but all such occurences can be more easily explained in other ways, such as naturally produced bodily discharges. The term derives from ecto- (from Greek for outside) and plasm (from Greek for a moulded thing), or more in other words something moulded outside, i.e. something physical being "moulded" externally to the body by use of psychic power. Sometimes the synonymous term exteriorization is used instead.

In the Maratrean Christian Church (MCC), ectoplasmic refers to a theory of Jesus' resurrection.
